Retrosaria is an exceptional project from Portugal that combines traditional local sheep breeds, old textile processes and contemporary design. Behind the brand stands Rosa Pomar - an art historian and passionate knitter who decided to revive long-forgotten fibers from the Portuguese countryside. The wool for their yarns comes exclusively from local sheep such as Bordaleira, Merino Branco or Campaniça, which are raised sustainably and ethically.
Retrosaria does not use superwash or chemical treatments - the wool is cleaned, spun and dyed in small spinning mills in Portugal to preserve its natural character, structure and fragrance. Their yarns such as Mondim, Vovó, Brusca or Mungo are popular for their individuality - they are not "perfect" in the industrial sense, but they seem all the more authentic, warm and with a story.
The interesting thing is that the Mungo yarn is made from 100% recycled fibers - it is a mixture of cotton and wool residues from the Portuguese textile industry. Retrosaria also designs custom tutorials, often inspired by Portuguese folklore, rustic sweaters and historical knitting techniques.
